Dolores Smith and Sarah Maxwell opened Homestead Hearth in September 2002 in Mexico, Missouri. For many years prior to that, they traveled to quilt shows around the country and visited shops along the way. Always, they talked about having their own shop and of all the exciting things they would do if they owned a shop. The reality of owning the shop and its related experiences has far exceeded their dreams.
Under that trade name of Homestead Hearth, Dolores and Sarah have designed quilts for use at International Quilt Market and that have appeared in most of the major quilting magazines. Their original pattern line debuted in 2009. They are regular contributors to McCall’s Quilting and Quick Quilts magazines. They also design fabric for Marcus Fabrics.
Dolores and Sarah are the authors of Faithful & Devoted: To My Adelaide – A Quilted Love Story, Women of Influence: 12 Leaders of the Suffrage Movement and A Path to the Civil War: Aurelia’s Journey Quilt.
