Barb Adams and Alma Allen met several years ago when Barb took an appliqué class from Alma. They are long-time authors for Kansas City Star Quilts and also own and operate their own company, Blackbird Designs.
Both Barb and Alma are inspired by the colors and textures of fabric. They not only quilt, but also enjoy cross-stitch and rug hooking – these projects are often found in their books. They both appreciate the break a small project offers after working on several large quilts.
Barb and Alma both enjoy gardening, as their quilt designs reflect – they try to incorporate flowers and gardens into their publications whenever possible. They agree that the friendships and laughter found through quilting are the joyful part of life.
Barb and Alma have written You’re Invited, Birds of a Feather, Celebration of American Life, Women of Grace and Charm, Quilting the Garden and Home Sweet Home for The Kansas City Star. They also have a 2008 wall calendar showcasing several of their quilts, and a jig saw puzzle that highlights the quilt No Place Like Home from their best-selling book Home Sweet Home.
